Product Recovery Systems

From an environmental point of view, by-product/waste recovery is an efficient method of waste reduction and pollution control. In the past, only a low percentage of by-product/waste could be recovered. Felix offers new-generation, higher-efficiency Product Recovery Systems, enabling maximum recovery in the most economical ways possible (so that acceptable levels of impurity concentrations are not decided in view of transportation costs).

Oil & Grease Removal System

Oil and grease are found in wastewater, either as an emulsion or as free-floating agglomerates. Chemicals such as detergents and solvents, and mechanical agitation, can cause oil and grease to become emulsified. Triglycerides are glycerol esters of fatty acids. Fats are mixtures of various triglycerides, with a small percentage of monoglycerides and diglycerides. Triglycerides that are liquid at room temperature are often referred to as oils.

According to the Water Environment Federation’s Manual of Practice FD-3 on Pre-treatment of Industrial Wastes, “Grease is a general classification for grouping such materials as fats, oils, waxes, and soaps, according to their effect on wastewater collection and treatment systems or their physical (semi-solid) forms.”

Felix Industries Limited has introduced an ‘Oil & Grease Trap’ which helps reduce oil & grease in wastewater.

Reject Handling and Processing

There are various kinds of industrial rejects—RO rejects, effluent rejects, rejects with high TDS contents, etc. Felix undertakes handling and processing of all these rejects, employing various technologies most suitable for the respective purposes.

Retrofitting & Upgrading of Plants and Systems

Retrofitting consists of adding new solutions to existing plants, replacing obsolete or dated technologies with new solutions, and also giving new life to parts that need replacement, while reutilizing plant parts that still have a valid lifespan. Felix undertakes retrofitting and upgrading of all running ETP, STP, or ZLD plants.

Customized Treatment Solutions for Complex Effluents

Different effluent-based companies need to treat their effluents differently. Felix provides a consolidated common solution for treating these complex effluents under the same roof, employing proven technologies. The company has a highly successful track record of providing efficient and economical solutions for multiple effluent companies.

Cold Lime Softening

This is a complex combination of flocculation and clarification/sedimentation systems in a single compact unit and works on particle density difference chemistry. This process uses ‘precipitate water softening’, which works typically at ambient temperatures. It effectively removes hardness and most heavy metals. During this process, calcium ions [Ca⁺²] and magnesium ions [Mg⁺²] are converted to less soluble salts such as CaCO₃ and Mg (OH)₂, which can be settled and removed in the form of sludge.

Hot Lime Softening

This is the most efficient way of ‘precipitate water softening’, which works typically between a temperature range of 85 to 110°C. It effectively removes part of the COD, hardness, and most heavy metals in lesser hydraulic retention time, with better results compared to the conventional cold/warm lime softening process, as the softening reaction speed is higher. During this process, calcium ions [Ca⁺²] and magnesium ions [Mg⁺²] are converted to less soluble salts such as CaCO₃ and Mg (OH)₂, which can be settled and removed in the form of sludge.

Advanced Micro Filtration

The tubular membrane separation system is an inside-out, cross-flow membrane separation process, in which a semi-permeable PVDF membrane is used to separate contaminants like suspended solids and solutes of higher molecular weight from the influent water. However, this process cannot remove ions or dissolved salts from the influent. The pore sizes of the openings on membranes are used to define their respective characteristics.

Spent Acid Regeneration

Felix Industries Limited is a proven performer in spent acid regeneration, having developed and commissioned dozens of specialized treatment processes in the segment. The company’s specialized know-how and technology enable it to provide safe, reliable plants that offer the latest innovations in process and equipment design. Felix® itself has developed a number of processes to purify and concentrate acid from a large variety of sources.

These processes concentrate the acid, recover valuable by-products, and minimize effluents and energy consumption. In many cases, several process options are combined to provide a custom-made process. Felix’s capabilities range from carrying out engineering studies to undertaking large turnkey projects.
